SUSTAINABILITY

Certified Breathable Building

Previously home to some of Queensland’s most popular boutiques and cafes, the former Piccadilly Arcade has received a new lease on life.

The interior floors were removed with new floors installed to create an additional level, and a basement excavated to enable provision of an underground restaurant.

In the extensive redevelopment, Blight Rayner crafted a sophisticated, sustainable design that pays homage to the character of the historic arcade. As part of the restoration, Evolve is incorporating the original timber beams, dating back close to 70 years, into the new design, integrating the past and the rich history of the building.

The 45 metre long, 10 metre wide building is able to be naturally ventilated through louvres at front and opening windows to the rear lane, creating one of the citys first “Breathable Buildings”.
